Kenneth Williams, the genius of being Kenneth Williams

Kenneth Williams wasn't the most talented, he wasn't the funniest, he wasn't even the wittiest, but what Kenneth Williams was good at was being wise. It was his wisdom that got him to where he was.  Yes he was funny and very knowledgeable about so many things.  I watched a clip of him recently on YouTube being interviewed by Michael Parkinson and his famous words were "Everyone is getting better and better at less and less; eventually someone is going to be brilliant at nothing"  What Kenneth Williams had failed to consider was that it is technology and science that forever moves forward.  Language is forever evolving as we create new words and phrases and are influenced by different cultures.  There is so much more to learn than ever before, We don't really have time these days to go to the pub or sit and watch television because there is so much more to do in the world.  The internet has opened up so much to so many people throughout the world, that I would imagine that in another hundred years people will be reading this and thinking, what strange language, YouTube whats that?

In actual fact, what Kenneth Williams became brilliant at was being Kenneth Williams.

Perfecting Perfection

It seems that the world is now looking for the perfect solution.  A beautiful world where everyone knows everything.  Of course, that is not going to happen there is no such thing as a perfect world.  There is no such thing as the perfect cake or the perfect poem or the perfect anything.  What we can do however is get on with our lives, make the most of what we have and hopefully we will have lived a fulfilled and happy life.  If you are are unable to get a job, don't worry just keep trying and hopefully you will find something that you are good at.  We are all good at something.  Look at the para Olympians for inspiration, with people with disabilities for inspiration how can we not be inspired; motivating us towards a brighter better future for everyone.

We have all heard of the term 'you look perfect tonight', well maybe perfection is simply in the eye of the beholder.

Give page file plenty of room

First and foremost before before you start tweaking with your settings you need to backup your system just in case something goes wrong. Don't know how to do this? Go into performance and maintenance control panel -> system restore and click on system restore point. Then if your system crashes you can boot up with system restore and it will take you back to the point before any changes were made. 

Good, done that? then lets begin. Page file is the name for windows XP virtual memory, thats the memory that is used after you have used all the RAM. Note: If you find you are consistently have to use virtual memory then you seriously need to invest in more RAM. Its fairly cheap and easy to install. Applications, both desktop and web are using more and more of the RAM on your computer and so eventually you will need to think about upgrading.

Now, to improve the performance of page file you need to do a couple of things

1. Defragment the page file on a regular basis, this will keep the file neat and tidy, basically keeping everything organised so that when the computer needs to access the page file it can do this quickly. 

2. Find somewhere on your hard drive with plenty of room. If you have more that one hard drive then store the page file in the one that is used the least. Alternatively, partition the hard drive and put the page file in the smaller partition. To know how much to partition the hard drive by, double your existing RAM and thats the amount space you will need.

Keep memory usage to a minimum

By keeping memory usage to a minimum, you will ensure that your applications run as efficiently as possible.

Go into the administrative tools menu -> Performance tools and run Systems monitor. To check the memory usage of a specific application click on the add button and access process. From the list of counters choose working set. This will tell you just how much memory the application is using. By adding more memory the application will run much faster and responsiveness will be significantly improved.

Go into Start Menu -> Accessories -> Systems Tools you can see just how much or how little memory the application uses

Internet security should be of the utmost concern in 2010

With ongoing concerns over terrorist attacks from extremist groups. My thoughts reach towards internet security.  Everyone needs to be concerned about their own internet security and should have antivirus software running on their computer.  Your computer may come under attack in many forms.  You could quite easily download a photo from the internet,  however when you open it  you could find it has a program hidden which is going to be used for malicious intent. Some of the common programs used are trojons,viruses,malware, worms and bots.
